Williams recommended the Port transition directly to electric equipment, rather than cleaner diesel or natural gas, and Gomez stressed the importance of community input in the development of the CAAP.
Following the testimonies, Commissioner Zucchet kicked off the discussion by pressing Port staff to determine the best ways for moving toward zero emissions. Commissioner Castellanos advocated that next steps include an inventory of all Port equipment that could be replaced with electrified versions. All Port commissioners present (Bonelli, Castellanos, Merrifield, Valderrama, and Zucchet) voted in favor of zero emissions goals.
EHC commends Port Commissioners for taking steps towards zero emissions port operations and a Clean Air Action Plan. We urge the Port to prioritize the electrification of all operations, including tenant-based mobile and stationary emission sources. Stay tuned for our next update!
