EHC staff and portside community residents urged Port Commissioners to: ✔️ Prioritize the electrification of all port operations ✔️ Act quickly to use millions of dollars in available funding ✔️ Develop a comprehensive inventory of trucks that service the port ✔️ Protect the health and well-being of workers A representative from the Teamsters spoke out on the importance of protecting truckers from bearing unsustainable burdens for maintenance of new equipment. Commissioner Castellanos agreed the plan must not add untenable financial burdens on truckers. Speaking to concerns about job loss by automation, Commissioner Merrifield pledged, “Not a single job will be lost.” EHC applauds the San Diego Unified Port District for taking a first step towards zero emissions port operations by developing a comprehensive CAAP. We remain committed to advocating for emission reductions and clean air, and look forward to working with the Port to achieve a healthy environment.
