Hi , The Port of San Diego pollutes the air we breathe, but you already know. We don’t need to tell you. Every day you see and hear heavy-duty trucks charging through your neighborhood driving to and from the Port polluting our air with diesel particulate matter. It is not just the trucks. Ships, forklifts, welding, painting and more spew diesel pollution and other toxins into our air. Diesel pollution causes cancer, premature death due to chronic heart and lung disease - like asthma. It is no surprise that the children in our neighborhoods have more than double the rate of asthma emergency room visits than the rest of San Diego County. It is time for the Port to deliver on its promise and be a good neighbor. The Port is asking for community feedback on its Maritime Clean Air Strategy (MCAS). Join fellow community members and EHC in calling on the Port to deliver on its promise to be a good neighbor by adopting an MCAS that puts your health first. The Port can do this by including the following environmental justice goals: - Decrease the risk of cancer by reducing diesel and other toxic air pollutants
- Require heavy-duty trucks to transition to zero-emission vehicles
- Implement a plan to install zero-emission vehicle charging stations
- Develop revenue sources to implement the MCAS goals
