EHC's Toxic Free Neighborhoods Campaign organizes in low income communities of color to advocate for the prevention of toxic pollution from industrial and mobile sources. TFN works with residents in Barrio Logan, San Diego and Old Town National City.
Recent Accomplishments
- Developed a community-driven specific plan in partnership with the City of National City for the Old Town neighborhood
- Secured funding from CCDC for the Barrio Logan community plan update and succeeded in moving the city to begin the plan update process
- Persuaded the Port District to develop a Clean Ports Plan to reduce emissions from cargo operations
- Won a prohibition of diesel truck driving schools and heavy duty truck prohibitions around Old Town National City’s elementary school
- Won diesel truck traffic prohibitions for Cesar Chavez Parkway and neighboring Barrio Logan streets
- Caused the National City Council to pass an amortization ordinance that will phase out polluting autobody and paint shops from the Old Town neighborhood
- Completed development of the Barrio Logan Vision, a community plan that promotes the principles to ensure healthy neighborhoods, create affordable housing, preserve community character and promote a livable community
