Letters:
Chula Vistans opposed mid-bayfront housing

A remarkable event occurred last week
that received no coverage in your newspaper. I refer to the press
conference by the Environmental Health Coalition and community members at
which results of a scientifically constructed survey on public attitudes
about mid-bayfront development were released. The survey was produced by
the Social Science Research Lab at SDSU.
The survey of over 500 randomly chosen residents of Chula Vista revealed that 79 percent of the Chula Vistans preferred minimal development or restoration of natural wildlife habitat that includes nature trails, that 88 percent favored parks, playgrounds and trails, and that 74 percent opposed residential condominium development. Respondents said they considered themselves to be mostly conservative or middle-of-the-road in their viewpoints. In past editorials, your newspaper has consistently shown a pro-developer bias. You have published misinformation and called opponents noisy no-growthers. My question is why, on one hand, you harass us for expressing our individual opinions and yet, on the other hand, you refuse to report information which runs contrary to development interests but most assuredly would be of interest to residents of the South Bay?
