Environmental
Health Coalition condemns the attacks of September 11 and mourns the
victims of these crimes against humanity. We extend to their families
and loved ones our deepest sympathies and bid them peace and healing in
their time of sorrow.
At this critical moment in our nation’s history, we implore our
leaders and elected officials to adhere to the humanitarian ideals of
justice and democracy, not revenge and retaliation.
Broad-scale military attacks alone offer no solution to this
global problem, and will only provoke and escalate the cycle of
violence. We urge the U.S. government to work in collaboration with an
international coalition under the provisions of international law to
bring to justice those responsible for the September 11 atrocities.
These tragic events have reminded us of the importance and vulnerability
of our national security at home. True national security is first and
foremost about the safety and heath of our communities. It requires an
involved and vocal populace speaking out on issues that impact their
lives and the environment we depend on. We need to redouble our resolve
to protect and defend our health, the environment, and the civil rights
and liberties of all communities, regardless of race, nationality or
religious affiliation. Without these, we will not have true national
security.
Environmental Health Coalition pledges to continue working toward
environmental and social justice and our efforts to create a just global
society.
Without struggle, there is no change. Without justice, there cannot be
peace.
