Chula Vista City Council sells out community health:

Behind closed doors, City approves agreement with MMC to expand peaker plant

Last Tuesday, in closed session, it appears that Chula Vista City Council directed City staff to drop their objections to the MMC Peaker plant expansion and support the MMC Project.  This is an outrage against local community residents and families who live near the power plant.

TAKE ACTION NOW!!

DEMAND THAT THE COUNCIL HOLD A PUBLIC SESSION AND SHOW YOUR OPPOSITION TO THE MMC PEAKER PLANT

ATTEND THE CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING
TUESDAY, AUGUST 12, 2008 - 6 PM
Join us in a rally at 5:30 PM in front of the Council Chambers,
276 4th Avenue, Chula Vista

THE CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU!

The City's decision to drop their concerns and objections in return for an additional one time payment of $210,000 was revealed in a letter to the California Energy Commissioner sent on Thursday.   Although the letter cites ‘input from the community’ as the basis for this action, the decision to accept MMC’s terms was never discussed in open or public forum. Read copies of the letters from the City of Chula Vista and MMC to the CEC.

Please contact the City Council immediately.  Voice your opposition and DEMAND that this be heard by the Council in open session.

CALL 691-5044 and leave messages for Mayor and Councilmembers:  Cheryl Cox, John McCann, Jerry Rindone, Rudy Ramirez, and Steve Castañeda.

Your help is urgently needed.  The expanded MMC power plant will increase pollution in the neighborhood, is too close to homes and schools, and is a direct violation of the City’s general plan. Call the City Council, attend the rally, and make a contribution to EHC so that we can continue this fight.
