You have the power to stop it NOW!

Join the Environmental Health Coalition in urging the
San Diego Unified Port Commission and LS Power to:

  • develop an energy replacement strategy that tears down the inefficient and outdated South Bay Power Plant
  • adopt an energy strategy that relies on development of clean, renewable energy and conservation
  • guarantee that any new replacement power plant be air cooled and eliminate air pollution on downwind neighbors and schools
  • involve impacted residents in the decision

WHEN: Wednesday, May 3, 2006 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

WHERE: City of Chula Vista Council Chambers
276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 91910

Directions: From I-5 exit E Street; head east; turn right on Fourth Avenue, then right on F. Parking available.

Background Information:

Negotiations are currently underway with Duke Energy and LS Power to decide the future of the South Bay Power Plant, an inefficient and outdated facility that has been polluting western Chula Vista since the 1960s. The SBPP emits hazardous air pollutants that have been linked to asthma and other respiratory illnesses, heart attacks and premature deaths. The SBPP uses up to 600 million gallons of bay water every day for cooling purposes, killing a wide range of marine life critical to the bay's ecosystem.

If you can't attend the hearing, download and sign the SBPP letter to the Port Commissioners, and mail it to Environmental Health Coalition, 401 Mile of Cars Way, Suite 310, National City, CA 91950. We will make certain your voice is heard.
