JOIN EHC TO FIGHT FOR
REAL AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR BARRIO LOGAN
Oppose approval of JMI’s Ballpark Village

WHAT: Environmental Health Coalition (EHC) opposes approval of the proposed Ballpark Village without real affordable housing benefits to the surrounding communities.
WHY: EHC has released its position statement (click here) regarding the hotly-debated Ballpark Village project. As you will see from the statement, EHC has major concerns about the project, and especially its potential to generate further displacement and gentrification in the surrounding communities. We do not feel that these issues have been adequately addressed by the Community Benefits Agreement negotiated by the ACCORD coalition. This is a massive project that will generate over $200 million in profit to its developers- which represents a 22% return on investment. The surrounding communities, especially Barrio Logan, deserve a significant amount of resources dedicated to the creation of affordable housing to combat the effects of this project and of downtown redevelopment in general . We are supportive of many of the positive changes to the project brought about by the CBA, and are disappointed to split on this issue with several organizations with whom we have had long-standing working relationships.
However, EHC cannot support the proposed Affordable Housing Agreement, and will be asking the City Council to postpone action on the project until an Affordable Housing Agreement is adopted which will provide resources to the surrounding communities, especially Barrio Logan, as a means to mitigate the economic impacts from this project.
