Background:
It has been over a year since the U.S. and Central American governments signed the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). Due to widespread opposition, the Bush Administration and Congressional leadership have not presented the agreement for a vote.
The San Diego Fair Trade Coalition and activists around the U.S. and Central America mobilized and successfully prevented proponents of CAFTA from introducing the agreement to the U.S. Congress for approval before the Memorial Day holiday. Now we have the chance to stop CAFTA altogether. Congresswoman Susan Davis remains undecided on CAFTA. We need her commitment to oppose CAFTA and we need her to make that position public NOW.
