Oppose MMC Peaker Plant
MMC, a New York-based corporation, is seeking to replace the current 44 MW peaker plant on Main St. in Chula Vista with a 100 MW plant closer to homes (350 feet away) and an elementary school (1300 feet). MMC applied to the California Energy Commission (CEC) for certification in September 2007. In May 2008, the CEC released their Preliminary Staff Assessment (PSA) on the proposed project. The PSA is the CEC staff’s report on whether the full commission should approve the project or not. Staff’s recommendation was that the new plant should be approved. EHC and many members of the affected community strongly disagree with that recommendation. EHC is an official party to the CEC proceedings and is officially opposing the new peaker plant.
